My word to you, my friend, is hang on – when you are exhausted and dragging, hang on. The day will come that you can actually eat a hot meal or finish a cup of coffee before it cools off (without microwaving it three times). Or for you, with teens, the day will come when you are not monitoring curfews and social media accounts and praying every time they drive away. I’m not going to tell you to enjoy these moments – I’m sure you’ve heard it lots. But I do want to tell you to find fun when you can squeeze it in. Leave the dishes unwashed occasionally to play with your children or listen to your teen. Yes, those dishes will be waiting, and you’ll still have to do them – but you’ll have taken a moment longer to be Jesus to your children and to receive from Him in that giving. Hang on to your crazy adventurous ride at this stage seizing moments to enjoy and find the tidbits of eternity that God drops in your path.
Find a way to speak those words of praise to your Father. Whatever your circumstance, whatever your business and weariness, whatever your broken dream and broken heart, believe that He is a good, good Father, and through it all, keep your eyes on Him. Those moments turn into a lifetime of worship even when washing dishes, changing diapers, and filling a feeding tube. Sometimes, we think the goal of our life is to be something “special” or do something big, and we can’t because of our current circumstances. Remember that He made you for so much more than doing: He made you to worship and to love Him. Skip the dishes for a while, leave the dust, but do not skip the time with your children or the sweet words of thanksgiving and worship from the depths of your heart. (Teach your child to do the same. Plead with God to put that desire in your child – He is the only One who can draw anyone.)
