Greetings and hugs! Today, I want to encourage you to look at this summer as a fun time with your kids – and a fun time to catch up on projects as well. There are so many character building moments in a summer activity that we can actually grow our kids greatly while having fun.
Take one simple skill you are training your children to develop and look for that during fun summer moments. For example: teach your child the value of the tone of voice when playing with a sister or brother. If all summer, you work on that one skill with your child, maybe that habit will be stronger than if you just hope it develops before they leave home or marry or become parents themselves.
One simple way to work on tone of voice (besides the obvious one of “model it”) is simply correct the ugly tone and ask your child to use their nice words or nice tone. Simply calling it out and asking for change of behavior works wonders. And to draw from last week’s post, work on our tone when we are tired or annoyed. At the end of the summer of working on our tone, we also have a more established habit than at the beginning of summer.
Summer break is also a great time to schedule one of your catch up projects: like updating baby books, putting away the winter clothes for that size, or dusting (yes, I dust every summer whether the house needs it or not! LOL) If you want more information on the value of baby books, click on this link and read about self-image.
